The Plastic Magician

This is the story of one of America's greatest con artists of the 20th century. Born of Cuban descent, Arturo Hoyo, aka The Plastic Magician, found himself on the front page of the Miami Herald for scamming American Express out of over 8 million dollars of credit card services in Florida alone. His rise to the pinnacle of his profession was acknowledged by vice-president George Bush and the Senate Judiciary Committee on crimes involving scams in Washington, D.C. They had contacted him in prison and convinced him to appear before them. Coupled with his adventures of seeking and getting revenge for the murders of his family and the loss of their Cuban sugar plantation was a lifestyle of the rich and famous. Spending millions at the drop of a hat, he romanced Hollywood celebrities as The Plastic Magician who also became his friend. His jet setting lifestyle with all the toys was one of which we all dream of doing. E.F. Hutton has nothing over The Plastic Magician for when he speaks, everyone listens. Everything he says sounds like it can be a best selling book on How To Make Money Without Really Trying and we all want to know the answer to that question. Some of his scams involved impersonating an Argentinian General and Mr. Bacardi, the rum magnate. The Plastic Magician can change identities and residences as fast as Clark Kent can change into Superman. This is an incredible story of a remarkable person who is the most memorable and interesting person I have ever met. Breaking Balls

Brett Samuels isn't the kind of pitcher that strikes fear in the hearts of opposing players. At not quite 6'0", not quite 175 pounds, he looks more a member of the grounds crew than of the pitching corps. With a semi-nimbus of curls emanating from beneath his cap, he cuts a figure that is equal parts defiant and hilarious, like a Napoleonic Max Patkin gazing angrily in at the signs. And he throws a fastball scarcely more stirring to dustmites than to minor league batters. But he has a broad-sweeping curve and an off-the-table forkball, the kind of out-pitch most hitters say just isn't fair. And they're right. Breaking Balls is the story of a sharp-tongued junkball pitcher from New York who, surrounded by vastly superior athletes and thriving on guile, wisecracks his way through the Northwest timber towns of the low minor leagues.

Transition Magician for Families

Transition Magician for Families

Transition Magician for Families

The third volume in the Transition Magician series, this book is designed to help early childhood professionals in supporting the parents of young children. The book provides activities for parents and young children for home and away from home to guide children through difficult transition times and to make the most of valuable opportunities for building skills and relationships. Chapter 1 discusses ways early childhood professionals can support parents to help their children manage transitions. The next five chapters present a collection of activities to use during everyday transition times. The activities are divided into five categories according to the type of transition in which they might be used, and children's developmental needs during transition times. The transition categories are: (1) everyday routines, such as leaving the house in the morning, picking up toys, or getting ready for bed; (2) busy time, when parents are busy with household routines and responsibilities; (3) together times, quality activities for parent and child in between the routines of the day; (4) on the move activities for travel time, both to school or child care and on longer trips; and (5) while you wait, activities while waiting at the doctor's office, laundry, or religious services. All activities are written in a reproducible form so that they may be photocopied and given to parents. The final chapter shows how early childhood programs can design and set up two workshops--one for parents only and the other for parents and children--using the transition ideas and props from this book. Three appendices include a list of eight resources, workshop activity lists, and handouts and examples. (KB)
