An anthology of the prose writings of Herefordshire-born B. L. Coombes (1893-1974), portraying the hardship and comradeship of the South Wales mining community, comprising four short stories, the novel Castell Vale and extracts from his autobiography Home on the Hill. New edition.
In With Dust Still in his Throat Bill Jones and Chris Williams present a selection from the mass of Coombes's unpublished work deposited at the University of Wales, Swansea. From the wide variety of material available they have chosen four different types of writing; autobiography, short stories, a novel and a 'war diary'. The resulting selection offers the reader new insights into Coombes's personal life, the society in which he lived and his distinctive literary and stylistic development.
